When The Photographer Became The Bride
I have been meaning to do this post so many times but time passed by so fast and 2020 hit us all like a bomb!! So as today is our one year anniversary I thought I would share my wedding day with you!
Last May we decided driving along in the car that we wanted to get married. No big romantic proposal, just a decision to get on with it. So we booked our date and had 14 weeks to plan the day. Yes, 14 weeks. I had only had baby Joe in March but I don’t do things by half lol
On the 26th August 2019, we became husband and wife at the amazing Galgorm Resort & Spa
For us we wanted our wedding to be about us and our own little family. The day before the wedding our little family of five arrived at the resort. We had a fabulous day, the kids loved the pool and how they had their own room (connected to ours). The girls felt like princesses and just loved their meal with me, just the three of us like it used to be, before an early bedtime for the day ahead.
I am incredibly lucky to work alongside so many wonderful wedding vendors. There was only one stop for me when it came to choosing my wedding dress, Charlene at Creative Ideas Bridal, has been a huge supporter of my business from the start and a good friend. Charlene, give me a selection of dresses to try that she knew would suit my shape and within 10 minutes we had found the one!
I had got the dress but I wanted to add my own little stamp to it and of course there was no one better than Deborah (Deborah K Design Bridal Jewellery & Headpieces) to help. Deborah designed an incredible bespoke headpiece and belt for me which just brought that something a little extra to my dress.
The morning of the wedding it was all systems go, we all went down for an amazing breakfast and soon after Sinead (Maid By Sinead Bridal Make Up) arrived to get me all glammed up! It was strange to be in Sinead’s makeup chair as I’m usually working with her on styled shoots or other weddings. Sinead is fabulous and knew exactly what I would want for my wedding day look. When Sinead arrived she couldn’t believe how chilled we were. Richard laying on the bed with Joe, white noise being played (not your usual wedding morning mix lol).
Soon after my bestie arrived, Suzanne (Chocolate Blonde Hair Couture) to make my hair look amazing as always! Suzanne knows me so well that she didn’t even need to do a trial or ask what I wanted. She just knows me and what I like. Soon we were popping the bubbly and relaxing after we banished Richard from the room!
When it came to choosing my photography team for the day, it was never a hard decision. Kirsty Lyn Jameson has been a true friend for a don’t know how many years, just like me she loves to have a laugh and we are always there for each other. Kirsty was joined by my good friends Leanne & Johny (Magills- Film & Photography) who were invited as guests but offered their services as a gift. The three together all did an amazing job and really helped Richard’s nerves by keeping everything as natural and relaxed as possible. Guys you did good lol Can’t believe we didn’t get a pic of us all!!
The time soon slipped away and it was time. Time for our first look….
We decided as we didn’t have a bridal party (just the kids) that we would do a first look. I am so glad we did. It was time for us to just be together, see each other all “dolled up” and really enjoy that moment. We got all our couple portraits taken before we walked down the aisle and the pressure was just lifted. Yes, even photographers aren’t fans of being in front of the camera!
I collected my flowers from reception and went to see a nervously waiting Richard! My beautiful boutique was from the incredibly talent, Kathryn at The Posy Barn. I wasn’t even going to have flowers but Kathryn was having none of it. I’m so delighted as they were just stunning!
Then it was time to say I do! We walked hand in hand together to the front of the Summer house to become Mr & Mrs. The ceremony was perfect by Stewart Holden. It reflected us as a couple and included our little family with Holly reading a little poem and Jessica handing us our rings. Our perfect wedding.
After the I do’s, it was time for just a few family pics and then the party! I was so glad to get my heels off and get a pair of pumps on! Yeah, they look lovely but I’m not used to heels!
We decided on no speeches on our day but Richard got extremely worried when he saw the chef with the mic, thinking his friends were going to speech anyway! He didn’t know that I had organized the amazing Gregg From Cameoflage. as surprise entertainment! Everyone loved it, Gregg really got the party going!
After dinner we went out for a little walk and finished off our portraits. I little more relaxed after a gin or two lol
We really did have the most wonderful day! We didn’t go with tradition but we did what suited us. I highly recommend it!
A huge thank you to everyone who made our day so special. Galgorm staff were all so amazing and could not have done enough for us. James even spent the evening bringing the kids (and some big kids) for rides in the golf buggy. All our guests sang the hotel’s praises and family still talk about how it was the best wedding ceremony they had been too. Thankfully Kirsty was away before the dance floor antics started but it really was a great party. The Professionals really know how to get the guests up dancing and the drinks were flowing. We had a hog roast (another surprise for Richard) for the evening buffet and it was fab!
It really was the “BEST DAY EVER”
