Magical Madeira
On the 26th August 2019 I got married! We had such an amazing day and did things a little differently from the traditional wedding way. I will share more about our day once I’ve received all my photographs.
On 2nd September we flew off on honeymoon to the magical island of Madeira. We wanted to go somewhere different but not too far was little Joe was coming with us. We love Portugal so when we realised Jet2 now flew to Madeira it was an obvious choice.

“Madeira Island is one of Europe’s most beautiful travel locations with many thousands of tourists returning year after year. It offers not only an all year round summer climate, as well as wonderful fauna and flora, but it is also virtually crime-free and one of the safest holiday destinations in the world!”
The main island, Madeira, is about 57 km long and around 22 km wide. Its capital, Funchal, located in a natural bay on the south coast, has a modern harbour, particularly important for cruise ships. Although it is not a big island, you cannot explore it in just one day! I think we seen on our week away about 80% of the beautiful island.
The island’s hilly terrain offers a wide diversity of landscapes — from high peaks (Pico Ruivo is the third highest of Portugal, with 1861 metres of altitude) and impressive cliffs, as Cabo Girão, to deep valleys and the great plateau of Paul da Serra. Laurissilva forest, endemic to Madeira, was classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999.
We stayed in Lido, a suburb of the capital city of Funchal. With amazing gardens, stunning architecture and colourful markets this City is beautiful.
As Richard is a football fan, no trip to Funchal would be complete without a visit to the CR7 museum. I was amazed by how many awards Ronaldo had won.
Porto Moniz – Natural lava Pools
Highest Cliffs In Europe – Cabo Girão
We had a truly amazing time in Madeira and would highly recommend to anyone! The island is stunning and if you like sightseeing over sitting by a pool this is the place for you.
